How to Choose a Web Designer in Suffolk Without Getting Burned

Most business owners hire a web designer once every few years, so it is hard to know what good looks like. I have cleaned up enough projects that went wrong to know the patterns. Here is how to choose well.

Look at work they have actually done

A real portfolio of live websites tells you far more than a slick sales pitch. Ask to see sites they have built for businesses like yours, then go and visit those sites on your phone. Are they fast? Easy to use? Do they still look current?

Ask who you will actually deal with

With some agencies you speak to a salesperson, then never hear from the person building your site. With a smaller outfit you usually deal with the person doing the work. That matters when you need a change made quickly or something explained in plain English.

Find out what happens after launch

Building the site is only the start. What happens when you need a new page, or the contact form stops sending emails, or Google changes something? A good designer sticks around. Ask directly about support, and get the answer in writing.

The warning signs

Walk away if someone cannot show you live work, will not give you a clear price, talks only in jargon, or wants full payment up front with no contract. Be wary of anyone who promises to get you to the top of Google in a week. That is not how it works, and they know it.

Local helps, but it is not everything

Working with someone in Ipswich or Suffolk means you can meet face to face and they understand the local market. That is genuinely useful. But the most important thing is whether they do good work and stand behind it. We are local, and we are happy to meet for a coffee and talk through what you need before you commit to anything.
