5 Quick Wins to Improve Your Website This Weekend

5 Quick Wins to Improve Your Website This Weekend

Not every website improvement requires a developer and a big budget. Here are five things you can probably do yourself this weekend that will make a real difference to how your website performs.

1. Compress your images

This is the single biggest quick win for most websites. If you've uploaded photos straight from your phone or camera without resizing them, your pages are probably loading slowly. Go to a free tool like TinyPNG or Squoosh, run your images through it, and re-upload them. You'll typically reduce file sizes by 60-80% with no visible quality loss.

2. Add your phone number to the top of every page

If someone is on your website and they want to call you, they shouldn't have to go hunting for your number. Put it in the header so it's visible on every page. On mobile, make it a clickable link so they can tap to call.

3. Update your copyright year

It sounds trivial, but if your footer says "© 2023" it makes your whole site look neglected. While you're down there, check that all your footer links actually work.

4. Add a testimonial to your homepage

Got a happy customer? Ask them for a quick quote and stick it on your homepage. Even one genuine testimonial with a real name is better than none. If you've Google reviews, screenshot the best one and add it to your site.

5. Check your site on your phone

Actually pull up your website on your phone and try to use it as if you were a customer. Can you read the text without zooming? Can you tap the buttons easily? Does the menu work? Does the contact form look right? Fix whatever feels awkward.

Bonus: check your Google Business Profile

While you're at it, go to your Google Business Profile and make sure everything is up to date. Correct hours, current phone number, recent photos. This takes five minutes and it helps your local search rankings.

If you try these and want more specific advice for your site, just ask. We're always happy to point you in the right direction.
