I Looked at 20 Business Websites in Ipswich. Here is What I Found.

Last week I spent an afternoon going through 20 business websites in Ipswich. Restaurants, tradespeople, salons, gyms, professional services. I wanted to see what the typical standard looks like for a local business website in 2026.

Here's what I found.

The good

Most have a website. That might sound obvious, but five years ago a lot of local businesses were still relying entirely on Facebook. The penny has dropped for most people that you need your own site.

Mobile is getting better. Most of the sites I looked at were at least somewhat mobile friendly. Not all of them were good, but the days of desktop-only websites seem to be behind us for the most part.

The not so good

Speed is a problem. 14 out of 20 sites took more than 4 seconds to load on mobile. Some took over 8 seconds. In a world where people expect things instantly, that's brutal. Most of the time it was down to massive images that had not been compressed.

SSL issues. 3 out of 20 had expired SSL certificates or mixed content warnings. That "Not Secure" label in the browser is an immediate red flag for visitors.

No clear call to action. I landed on 11 of these sites and genuinely wasn't sure what they wanted me to do. No prominent phone number, no "get a quote" button, no obvious next step. If I were a potential customer, I would have left and gone to the next result.

Outdated content. Multiple sites had blog posts from 2021 as their most recent content, or events sections advertising things from last year. It makes the business look inactive even if it's not.

No reviews or testimonials. Only 6 out of 20 had any form of social proof on their website. The rest were asking me to trust them based on nothing more than their own marketing copy.

The takeaway

The bar for local business websites in Ipswich isn't high. That means if you invest in doing it properly, you stand out immediately. A fast, modern, mobile-friendly website with clear calls to action and genuine reviews will put you ahead of most of your competition.

Want to know how your website stacks up? Send us the link and we'll give you an honest assessment.
